Grandmaster Sin Kwang Thé
Grandmaster Sin Kwang Thé (on the right) was born in 1943 in Bandung, Indonesia about one hundred miles from the capital Jakarta. He began his studies with Grandmaster Ie Chang Ming as a child at 7 years of age. When he was 12, he received his first degree black belt after an all day test. He continued his training regimen until 1964 when he came to the United States to pursue a college education at the University of Kentucky in Lexington.
It was in college that his roommate discovered his knowledge of Martial Arts after catching Sin The' meditating to increase his energy while in a horizontal split posture. After teaching his roommate a few basic defense techniques the secret was out and a college Martial Arts class was started. The college recreation class ended up birthing a full sports center in Lexington, KY called Sin The's sportscenter. This was a $5 million dollar facility built over 20 years ago. Featuring weights, fitness circuit equipment, racquetball courts, martial arts classes, 1/8th mile indoor track, swimming pool, jacuzi, outdoor wavepool, etc.
We first met Grandmaster Sin The' in 2000. We were pleased to discover that the great Shaolin system of fighting and conditioning taught by Grandmaster The' is also taught by many other Karate and Kung Fu masters the world over. It has even been published in texts such as the Encyclopedia of Shaolin Martial Arts authored and published by Shi Deqian. This Martial Arts system has given us a great bond with thousands of other students around the world.
Grandmaster Sin The' now resides in West Hills, California and teaches seminars about the ancient art of Kung Fu around the country.
This photo was taken during a trip to China in June 1992. The man on the left is Su Xi, the head abbot of the Shaolin Temple, now deceased.
